This past weekend we went to my parents' for the first time since we were there for the memorial service. An aunt, uncle, and cousin from Germany were there (Mom's brother). Also one of my second cousins from Germany, who now lives in Connecticut, was there.
It was nice to see them. It was nice of them to come. I would have preferred to have more time with my dad with just immediate family, on this first time back since the memorial.
This past week was my dad's 60th birthday.
It was a difficult weekend. First of all, I was pretty tired from leading Rosh Hashana services Friday evening and Saturday morning--for those who are celebrating, Shana Tova uM'tukah (have a good and sweet year). Then we got the kids in the car and drove the three hours to my dad's. We were there for about an hour and then went out for a big birthday dinner.
Sunday we just sat around the house. Dad had church, though he wasn't preaching. When he came home we had lunch and just hung out for the rest of the day. Dad was having a hard day, and then I started having a hard day (not because he was, just because I was thinking about Mom not being there and how much I hate that). We left at about 9, got home shortly before midnight.
Now Mike and I both have colds.
